Our education practice provides support to individuals and institutions within the education sector. The practice is able to operate a 'one-stop shop' approach to meet your needs with other teams within ACS supporting the practice on areas such as employment, charities, property, family and personal injury matters. Our aim is to provide you with practical support to ensure you achieve the best possible outcome.

Support for education institutions is led by Richard Freeth, Solicitor. He has over 8 years experience of education law gained in local government and has advised on a range of matters from early years education to further education. He has particular expertise in admissions, exclusions, disability discrimination and special educational needs and has been involved (successfully) in defending schools and local authorities at tribunal and high court level.

The practice supports schools and local authorities in a number of ways such as acting as legal adviser to the school and providing support on issues such as changes to trust or foundation status, relations with the local authority and other agencies and training on all areas of education law including admission and exclusion appeals. The practice also takes a role in providing legal advice during the establishment and then the operation of academies and is involved in the grounbreaking Manchester Model where 7 academies are being co-sponsored by the local authority, the FE college and key businesses within the Manchester area.

Inez Brown, Solicitor, provides advice and support to individuals on a range of education matters including special educational needs, disability discrimination, exclusion, bullying and religious discrimination. She has successfully led a number of cases at tribunal and high court level and has close links with a number of special educational needs support groups. Inez has a range of expertise and experience gained over 4 years which is valued by clients and other professionals within the education sector.

In addition to the core education work, Inez also provides support on education negligence actions alongside other personal injury actions.
