Mental health
This is a brief guide to our comprehensive range of legal services for those suffering from mental illness or who have learning disabilities, and their families.
We provide a range of services to those detained in hospital under the Mental Health legislation, including:
Representation at Mental Health Review Tribunals
A person detained in hospital under the Mental Health legislation has the right to appeal to the management of that hospital and to have his or her case reviewed by a Mental Health Tribunal.
The patient's nearest relative also has a right to ask for the patient's case to be reviewed and to request discharge from hospital, to attend any Tribunal hearing and be represented.
Having access to legal advice and representation is important in this complex area of law.
The patient and treatment
Those who suffer from mental illness either directly or because a member of their family suffers are often under such considerable stress that they are unaware of their opportunities to claim compensation for ill health.
